PHILLIPS PRESSES DESJARLAIS ON FAMILY SEPARATION

PHILLIPS PRESSES DESJARLAIS ON FAMILY SEPARATION

Responding to DesJarlais’ support for the Trump policy, which was announced a month-and-a-half ago by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Democratic congressional candidate Mariah Phillips, a Murfreesboro teacher, condemned the idea of separating children from parents.

“As a mother of five children, I’m horrified at the sight of children being taken from their parents. As a teacher, I know the trauma being inflicted on these children will never go away,” Phillips says in a statement. “As a person of faith, this is not how I believe we love our neighbors. Rep. DesJarlais’ support for this policy is shameful and does not represent the values of Tennesseans in the 4thDistrict, regardless of their political party. We must make our voices heard in this moment and tell Congress to stand up to the administration and end this monstrous policy.”

TENNESSEE AFL-CIO ENDORSES MARIAH PHILLIPS

The AFL-CIO represents hundreds of local unions and thousands of working families in Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, TN - Mariah Phillips, a public school teacher and candidate for Congress in Tennessee’s 4th District, received the endorsement of the Tennessee AFL-CIO. The TN AFL-CIO represents over 270 local unions and more than 60,000 working families across the state.

“Families in Tennessee are working harder and longer than ever before and are still struggling to make ends meet. They are tired of politicians in Washington playing partisan games instead of focusing on solving problems,” said Phillips. “I’m running for Congress because we need to change the conversation in Washington and we can only do that by changing the type of person we send there. As a teacher, and a union member, I’m honored to have the support of the Tennessee AFL-CIO.”
